This is a .pdf crochet pattern, written in standard American crochet terms. With this easy pattern, you can make a very whimsical marmot, also known as groundhog, woodchuck or whistle pig.

Size
Size of finished groundhog made with worsted weight yarn: 5.5 inch / 14 cm high.

Materials
For this crochet marmot you’ll need worsted weight yarn and an E US/3.5 mm crochet hook. You’ll need four or three colours of yarn, murky brown, 2/4 of a 100 yard skein (body), barley, 1/20 (belly) and left-over bits of light beige for the muzzle and eyebrows, acorn heather for the paws and ears but you can also make these in murky brown, and you need some dark embroidery yarn to outline the nose. For the eyes I’ve used 8 mm animal eyes. You will also need fibrefill and pellets for a bit of extra weight in the body (I use Hama beads). Lopi colour numbers: 1420, 1419, 0086, and 0053.

The crochet pattern contains
An intro with useful info. List of materials, tools and accessories needed. Brand and colour numbers of the needed yarn. A clear and colour coded description of how to crochet and assemble the animal. Pictures and illustrations to help getting everything right. All my patterns are text edited for correct English and have been tested by an experienced crocheter before publishing.

Yarn
Istex Lett lopi & Einband Lopi. I strongly recommend using a fuzzy yarn because it gives the best result.

Gauge is unimportant for this pattern. If the pieces are crocheted tightly enough, they will not gape visibly when stuffed. You can make a little test swap to be sure.

Note: this marmot got a make-over Januari 2019, some project might look different because they are made with the Monty 1 pattern.
