Moon Phase Socks are a whimsical love note to the Moon! Fun and engaging stranded knitting evoke the moon in all it’s phases, stars, halos and moon beams. Combined with an otherwise vanilla style sock this patterns makes for a nice balance of techniques and a great project for that special sock set.

The pattern is offered in cuff down construction, includes 3 adult sizes and a heel flap and gusset heel constuction. I’ve also included my Stranded Colourwork Socks guide with your purchase. The pdf has all my favourite tips and tricks for an easier stranded knitting experience and socks that fit!

This pattern has been a collaboration with Stephanie of Blackbird Sycamore Yarn, find her shop here.

Tubular OR German Twisted cast on, working in the round, knit, purl, slipping stitches, decreasing, stranded colourwork, reading charts, Kitchener stitch.

Materials
Sample Yarn Used:
2 x 100 g/437 yds, Blackbird Sycamore Yarns, Super Sock 4-ply, 75% Fine Superwash Merino/25% Nylon MC in Black No 1 (dark charcoal/black) and CC in Petrichor (silver grey with speckles).

Yardage: 300 (350, 410) yds/274 (320, 375) m TOTAL fingering weight yarn. Yardage is an estimate and is impacted by yarn used, knitter’s gauge, length of sock foot and/or leg knitted. A 100 g main colour skein is sufficient for all sizes; CC total yardage is approx. 75 (85, 95) yds for the pair of socks.

2.5 mm/US 1.5, 80 cm/32” length for magic loop, OR 2 x 40 cm/16” length for the two-circular method, OR 2.5 mm/US 1.5 double pointed needles OR size needed to obtain gauge. Darning needle.

Gauge: 34 sts/44 rnds = 10 cm/4”, in the rnd, in st st, AND 34 sts/38 rnds = 10 cm/4”, in the rnd, in stranded colourwork. (Colourwork chart is approx. 6.25 cm/2.5” long.)
