The vertical stripes in this sweater radiate around the body, giving the illusion of added depth. This sweater was designed to showcase low-contrast color pairings in the body stripes, with a pop of color in the vertical stripes – however, the vertical stripes are entirely optional! They are added after the body is finished, using a technique called surface crochet (it’s easier than it sounds, I promise), for which I provide both photo and video tutorials.

This sweater is knit top-down, with a saddle shoulder construction. The saddles, front, and back are all worked flat in separate sections before joining to work the body in the round, working downward and ending in a split body hem. German short rows are worked to shape the shoulders, as well as to angle the sleeves downward, and finally the collar is worked after picking up stitches around the neck.
