About this Pattern:

This is the perfect “Mountain Grandpa” Sweater Pattern. This sweater has a positive ease of 6-8 inches and has an oversized feel. If you prefer a more fitted sweater, I would suggest sizing down a size. This sweater has been graded using a Men’s Size Chart. The model is wearing a size 2, with a 35 inch circumference. The second model is wearing a size 3.

Construction:

Start by knitting the back flat and increase every row to shape the back. Once the back is completed, you will pick up and knit stitches along each shoulder for the front of the sweater. For each shoulder, you will make increases to shape the neck. The front two shoulders are connected by casting on stitches using the back loop method. Once the front is completed, you will start working in the round and start the colorwork charts. Depending on which size you are knitting, you will work different Moose charts. The sleeves are worked by picking up stitches along the armhole and decreasing as you work the charts.

Gauge: 4.5 mm (US 7) needles, 20 sts x 26 rows = 4x4 inches, 10 x 10 cm

Ease: Postive ease 6-8 inches (15-20 cm)

Materials:

  • Body: 4.5 mm (US 7) circular needles: 22 - 30 inch (55-75 cm) cable

  • Ribbing: 3.5 mm (US 4) circular needles: 30 inch (75 cm) cable if using the Magic Loop Method OR 8 inch (20.32 cm) cable for neck AND/OR ChiaGoo shorties (for the ribbing on the sleeves)

  • Optional - Moose Chart: 5 mm (US 7) circular needles: 22- 30 inch (55-75 cm)I found it useful to use for the Moose Chart because I’m a tight knitter and didn’t want my work to bunch

  • Stitch Markers
