Morgenstern is a perfectly cozy sock! Designed to turn your scrappiest scraps into a cohesive unit, this sock uses a single color to tie your barely-coordinating scraps together. Worked toe-up in a slip stitch texture that shows off variegated colorways and feels like a hug for your foot, Morgenstern will be your favorite cozy-morning go-to sock.

Instructions are provided so you only have 4 ends per sock to weave in when they’re done!

Yarn (sock/fingering): 350-400 yards/320-370m total.
Main Color: approx. 200 yards / 182m
Contrast Colors: approx. 12 yards / 11m each of 12 Contrast Colors (150yd total).
(4 rounds on one sock takes approximately 3 yards/ 2.7m.)

On Modifications:
This sock is adaptable to however many colors you’d like to throw at it. Your stripes can even be different widths!

This pattern uses the Fish Lips Kiss Heel recipe. You can substitute your own heel, of course, but I highly recommend investing in the Fish Lips Kiss recipe because it gives me the best-fitting, most comfortable socks I’ve ever worn.

You can make this pattern as a top-down sock, but you’ll have less control over how the stripes behave along the foot that way.

This sock is named for the author of Night Circus and The Starless Sea. Erin Morgenstern creates worlds that you want to steep yourself in, worlds at once comfortably familiar and delightfully unpredictable – just how I wanted these socks! Also, I was reading The Starless Sea as I knit my first pair.
