This is an Overlay Mosaic Crochet Pattern
I am so proud to be releasing my very first mosaic crochet crib blanket design, Mosaic Teddy Afloat.
The design features a teddy bear floating amongst the clouds with the assistance of a bunch of balloons and in the company of some birds.
This design is very similar to my interlocking crochet version, Up and Away
Mosaic Teddy Afloat is a crib sized blanket which I made up using 100% cotton yarn.
The pattern does not teach you how to do mosaic crochet, but I included a resource page in the pattern file with links to all the tutorials that I found helpful.
I used the negative stitch technique in order to create a reversible blanket but I am including the option to not use the technique i.e you will have the flaps on the back of your work as is normally the case with mosaic crochet.
This pattern uses the Chain Start Envelope Border method which eliminates the need for the slip stitch round prior to starting to the border.
The design features 2 border options: The mosaic hearts on the front and a simple striped border on the back. You could use either of these or both, like I did.
I also included a pattern file for your gauge swatch, Mosaic Hearts, which if you made it with thinner yarn and a smaller hook, could easliy be completed as a coaster.
Here are all the design details:
Grid Size: 181 sts x 213 rows
Size: crib sized blanket (89 cm x 96 cm / 35 in x 38 in)
Yarn Used: Light DK (WPI 11)
Yarn Usage:
Col A - Grey - 1570 m / 1717 yds
Col B - Yellow - 1240 m / 1357 yds
Col C - White - used in the border only - 250 m / 274 yds
Hook Size: 3.5 mm for mosaic crochet and 3.0 mm for the border
Stitches Used: US Terminology - Chain, Single Crochet, Half Double Crochet (used in the border) and Double Crochet
Extra Materials Needed: scissors and stitchmarkers
Note that using a thicker yarn and larger hook will result in a bigger project. Similarly, using a thinner yarn and a smaller hook will result in a smaller project.
