This 14 pages Miniature mosquito brooch pattern includes detailed instructions with plenty of photo references to instruct you on how to crochet miniature.

Skill Level: Intermediate
This crochet pattern is for those, who already have some skills in crocheting using a small crochet hook. The recommended size of the crochet hook – up to 1 mm (my brooch is crocheted with 0.75 mm crochet hook)
The brooch is crocheted with the wrong side out as one detail.
The legs, wings, antennae and nose are on a wire frame.

Materials and tools:

  1. Yarn for crocheting and crochet hook. For my mosquito I used three colors of the cotton yarn of the same thickness (550 m in 100 gr): white, gray and red. For shaping of antennae and legs you can use yarn of the same thickness or even bobbin thread, it is advisable to take a darker shade. The nose can be made either red, or of the same color as the legs. The wings can be crocheted or decorated in any way you know. Here I decided to show a rather simple, but quite viable option. Textured yarn with a shiny pile was used for wrapping the wings, the photo of the skein is below. They can be wrapped with just white yarn or lurex yarn.
  2. Toy stuffing (fiber filler).
  3. Wire for the frame (I use 0.8 mm galvanized steel wire). It will take about 70-80 cm (I did not measure the exact length that I used, better have a margin). Wire tools (wire cutters, pliers).
  4. A needle with an eyelet that is large enough to insert the crocheting thread.
  5. Two black beads for the eyes.
  6. Fishing line or monofilament and a thin needle for sewing on eyes. Eyes can also be sewn with bobbin thread, the main thing is that the needle goes into the hole of the bead.
  7. Polyurethane based glue or similar for wrapping the frame and gluing frame parts. It is convenient to work with glue in the form of a gel. To simplify the work, instant glue (usually sold in small tubes of about 3 g) may be used. It works well, but you may not use it at all.
  8. Red thin thread for embroidering veins on the eyes. A needle with a suitable eye.
  9. Sew-on clasp for a brooch.
  10. Materials for tinting - I used eyeshadow and acrylic varnish solution (or PVA glue solution) to fix the tinting. Tinting will allow you to emphasize the volume of the work, you need very little of it. You can only use a dark gray color (around the eyes, top and bottom of the “butt”). Dry pastels, acrylic paints, oil pastels, colored pencils, or something from your cosmetic bag are suitable for tinting.
