Mossblossom is an easygoing textured shawl that pairs simple lace with soft garter stitch and just enough detail to keep you engaged. Bobbles dot the fabric and the gently scalloped edges give it a natural, organic finish.

It begins as a rectangle and with one small seam transforms into a wearable wrap that sits comfortably on the shoulders with a perfect drape everytime. The result is relaxed and versatile; easy to throw on, easy to knit, and easy to reach for again.

Design Details

The lace panels are framed by garter stitch and highlighted by small bobbles that stand out beautifully in single ply yarn. The chart is straightforward and quickly becomes familiar, making it a comfortable project to settle into.

The finished piece has a soft drape and a slightly sculpted shape once worn, creating a shawl that layers easily over everyday outfits.

Pattern Highlights

  • Low stitch count keeps the knitting relaxing
  • Lace + garter texture is fun to knit
  • Lightweight but cozy finished fabric
  • Transforms from rectangle into an easy-to-wear wrap
  • Highly adaptable to different yarns and colors

Construction Overview

Mossblossom is knit flat as a rectangle.

After blocking, a small approximately 2” seam is worked at one corner. This creates the shawl’s signature drape and allows it to be worn like a wrap or infinity style scarf.

Because the shape is created after knitting, the stitch count stays manageable while still producing a generously sized accessory.

Yarn Notes

We knit our sample in La Bien Aimée Merino Singles
(100% merino, 400 yards / 366m per 100g skein) in Yellow Brick Road Graffiti.

Single ply yarn gives the lace and bobbles a soft halo and helps the fabric drape naturally around the shoulders. Semi solid and tonal colorways work especially well because they add depth while still letting the texture remain visible.

Other hand dyed fingering weight yarns will also work beautifully, especially soft merino or merino blends.

Needles & Gauge

US 5 (3.75 mm) 24” circular needle

Gauge is not critical for this project. The fabric’s drape is more important than exact measurements. If you have loose tension, size down one needle.

Yardage Requirements

2 skeins fingering weight yarn
Approximately 800 yards (732 m)

Semi solid or tonal colorways recommended.

Finished Measurements

18” deep (46 cm)
50” wide (127 cm)
25” wide when folded

Length and width can be adjusted by working more or fewer chart repeats.
Note: yardage requirements will change if modified.
