The lace design in this vest was inspired by a brief but lovely stay at “The Inn of the Mountain Gods” in Southern New Mexico. I’m no expert, but growing up in New Mexico has given me a fascination and respect for the Indians of the Southwest. This resort is run by the Mescalaro Apache Tribe. It was named after The Mountain Gods who are said to have saved two injured people who had to be left by the rest of the tribe as they were fleeing an enemy. The two survived for several days in a cave after which their injuries were miraculously healed allowing them to evade capture and reunite with their people.

A unique cast on and bind off give this piece a clean, professional look. Strategic stitch marker placement makes it easy to keep track of your work without having to read the pattern on every row.

It can be worn upside down, right side up, open, or closed with your favorite shawl pin.

A special thanks to cegirl69 for initial brain storming and encouragement, ariane-g for technical editing and test knitting, mimisneedlebasket and DyharKnitter for modeling, and of course RoxanneZYG and Neville for making such inspiring yarn!
