The inspiration for this piece started with the yarn. The soft, warm, squishy merino nudged me toward this cozy cable and lace hat, perfect for a trip to the mountains, the office or the grocery store. I can imagine wearing this hat for a trek in the mountains and later while sipping cocoa by the fire.

This pattern has been tested and tech edited. It is worked in the round from the bottom up, beginning with simple ribbing and moving into an interesting cable and lace pattern. The pattern is both written and charted.
