This is my Mourning Cloak Butterfly Crochet Pattern. The project is great for crocheters with intermediate skill levels and up.

The PDF crochet pattern includes written instructions which are accompanied by many step-by-step photos and exclusive video tutorials for parts of the pattern.
The pattern also includes photo tutorials on how to make a magic ring, invisible decreases in single crochet, color changes in single crochet and closing small rounds.

LANGUAGES: English (US)

SIZE:
The butterfly will be approx. 11cm/4.3” wide and 8cm/3” long, if using the indicated hook size and yarn weight. If you want it to be larger or smaller, you could use a different yarn weight and adjust the hook size accordingly.

CONSTRUCTION:
The wings are sewn on. The markings are embroidered. You have the option of crocheting the legs and antennae or making them with craft wire. The pattern includes photo tutorials for both methods.

MATERIALS AND TOOLS:

  • Cotton yarn in 4-Ply/Fingering or DK/light worsted weight in dark red, black and pale yellow (or 3 different colors of choice) I used Scheepjes Catona in Scarlet (192) Jet Black (110), and Lemon Chiffon (100)
  • 2.5mm crochet hook / Size B-1 or C-2, depending on how tightly you crochet
