Mouse Theatre
This pattern is for the mouse, its outfits and accessories as well as the mouse theatre with opening curtains, ticket office & optional stage lights!
Please be aware that the mouse theatre is large (measurements are given below) and so this is a time-consuming project! The pattern contains lots of photos to help you every step of the way. It is written in English, using American crochet terms. All of my patterns have been independently tested prior to publication.
You will need:
Yarn of your choice. Yarn weight doesn’t really matter - the size of your project will simply turn out bigger or smaller! I used King Cole Cherished DK (equivalent to weight 3 / light worsted weight) and my finished mouse measures approximately 10cm tall. My finished theatre measures approximately 35cm tall, 34cm wide and 15cm deep. Please ensure that you use the same weight yarn throughout your project.
For the mouse (pages 4 - 8), you will need the following colours:
- Main mouse colour - I used pale grey, cream or pale brown (approx. 23.5m per mouse).
- Nose / ears / feet / tail colour - I used pale pink (approx. 13m per mouse).
For the magician’s clothing & accessories (pages 9 - 15), you will need the following colours:
- Magician’s trousers, jacket & magic wand colour - I used black (approx. 38.5m).
- Cummerbund, bowtie & cloak colour - I used red (approx. 21m).
- Shirt & magic wand ends colour - I used white (approx. 10m).
For the snack / ticket seller’s clothing & accessories (pages 9, 10, 16 - 18), you will need:
- Snack seller’s trousers & bowtie colour - I used red (approx. 12.5m).
- Shirt & snack tray colour - I used white (approx. 22.5m).
- Ice cream colours - I used yellow, pink and dark brown (approx. 3m per ice cream).
- Ice cream stick colour - I used light brown (approx. 0.5m per ice cream).
- Tickets colour - I used gold (approx. 1m per ticket).
For the theatre (pages 19 - 38), you will need the following colours:
- Main colour - I used blue (approx. 844m).
- Stage colour - I used light brown (approx. 145m).
- Theatre masks, frame edges & stars colour - I used gold (approx. 72m).
- Front curtains colour - I used red (approx. 71m).
- Backdrop curtain colour - I used light blue (approx. 100m).
- Base Colour - I used grey (approx. 124m).
Please note = The amount of yarn used will vary according to yarn weight, hook size and stitch tension so these measurements are only a rough guide. The pattern refers to the colours that I used, however these can be substituted for colours of your choice.
You will also need:
- A suitable size hook for the yarn you have chosen - I used a 4mm hook.
- A pair of 6mm black safety eyes per mouse.
- Some toy stuffing.
- Small amounts of black finer yarn or thread for adding the details to the mouse’s face (optional).
- 2 buttons for fastening the trousers . The ones I used were 15mm in diameter.
- ‘7 count’ plastic canvas. I had a 26cm x 33cm sheet (that’s 10.25 x 13.5 inches) & I used 3.5 sheets. A higher count (that’s the number of holes per inch) will mean the plastic is more bendy so stick to 7 count if possible. If your plastic feels very bendy, you may wish to insert multiple layers of plastic into the panels to make your theatre stronger.
- 2 lengths of wooden dowel - mine were 7mm in diameter & 33.5cm long.
- A 1m string of micro fairy lights (including stage lights is optional).
- Other tools you will need are a tapestry needle, some scissors and some stitch markers.
You are welcome to sell the items that you make using this pattern, but please do not sell / share the pattern itself.
Thank you
