Mugo Pine Mittens
For the Mugo Pine Mittens, I use a weight 3 (DK weight) yarn (or very thin weight 4), but making them with thicker or thinner yarn will give you more size variations to fit multiple hand sizes :)
The Granny spike stitch eats up a lot of yarn, so for these mittens, have at least 200m-350m (218yds-382yds) of #3 weight (or a thin weight 4). Amounts will vary if you use a different yarn.
This mitten sizing is comparable to the “one-size-fits-all” average adult size.
If using Tea Time or Järbo Cookie, the width of the folded piece should be roughly:
Size 1 - 8 cm (3.1”)
Size 2 - 8.5cm (3.3”)
Size 3 - 9 cm (3.5”)
The width should be 1cm longer than the width of your knuckles when your fingers are together.
If you want to make child size mittens, try using a 2 weight yarn with a 3.5 or 4mm hook.
If you want to make a larger male size mitten, try using 4 weight yarn with 5.5 - 6mm hook
