Mum's blanket
Out of all of the patterns I’ve designed this pattern has the most meaning to me, it was a surprise present for my Mum whilst she
was very poorly. This blanket was knitted to fit inside my Mum’s wheelchair when she was poorly because she was always incredibly cold, and struggled with normal sized blankets as they didn’t sit quite right in her wheelchair. It is a simple knit and can be worked in any colours or pattern that you want. Blue was Mum’s favourite colour so there was no doubt for me that was the theme I was going to use for her blanket. I used Hayfields
super chunky acrylic yarn in white and navy. I used approximately 3 balls of each colour and that gave the nice lap size blanket I wanted (22 inches by 50 inches approximately). It is very easy to adjust the pattern repeats and increase or decrease the size just by adding or removing a repeat(s). It is knitted in garter stitch so perfect for any beginners. I used 10mm circular needles but
the size of the needles doesn’t really matter it’ll just change your gauge (how tight your stitches are). Anything from 9-14mm will work perfectly well. I know a lap blanket isn’t great to snuggle
up under so I’ve written the pattern in multiple different sizes so you can choose which size you want. Any money made from this pattern will be donated to Cancer Research in memory of my
amazing and strong Mum.
