Mrrrrggglll! This is an INTERMEDIATE pattern because there’s a good bit of assembly and there are a lot of pieces, so get ready to do some sewing! It’s suitable for an adventurous beginner and it’s a good project to customize with all sorts of different color combinations! There are step-by-step pictures throughout and a bunch of extra pictures at the end of a finished hood.

You can either work the main part of the hood with 2 strands of worsted weight or a comparable blanket/bulky yarn that gets you a similar gauge. This makes for a really thick, warm hood that can support all of the spines which are also 2 strands worked together. The flat details (eyes, etc.) are worked with just 1 strand.

I might update this pattern to include a smaller/kid version if there’s interest! Let me know!

Materials and Supplies
• Worsted weight yarn in desired murloc colors, plus an eye color, and a small amount of black and white for eye details (see the COLOR SUGGESTIONS section below for COLOR SUGGESTIONS).
o YARDAGE (approximate): 600 yards of the main color and less than 200 yards of all other colors. I recommend having 2 skeins/balls when holding 2 strands together, rather than working from both ends of 1, but this is up to you.
• Size J crochet hook
• Yarn needle – if you’re working with 2 strands together or blanket yarn then you’ll want at least one needle with a pretty large eye
• Stitch marker – for the continuous rounds
• Pins (optional, but recommended for positioning the parts before attaching – I use bobby pins)
• Stuffing material (optional – for if you want to stuff the spines to make them more rounded)

• Hdc: half-double crochet
• Sl: slip stitch
• Inc: increase

• St/sts: stitch/stitches
• Rnd/rnds: round/rounds
Whip stitch/running stitch can be used to join the pieces. You can use whichever you prefer that you think looks best for each part.
Gauge: approx. 5 hdc/2 in and 3 hdc row/2 inch
I didn’t work my hdc very tight because I didn’t want the hood to be too stiff, but I did work the sc (particularly the spines) fairly tight to make them sturdy without stuffing.
Finished hood, folded in half, measures about 18” tall from the front corners to the top and 12” across from front to back. The taller spines add about 6”.
