I love the look of circular and square shawls. When it comes to wearing them, there are problems. I have to fold them over to wear them and then there’s that bunch up of fabric at the neck. After a great deal of musing, this was my solution. It’s not a perfect solution, as there are those pesky return rows, but it is close.

Instead of starting at the very center, Musings starts several inches later, which enables the shawl to wrap well around the neck. At the beginning, it is more octagonal. As the shawl progresses, the mesh between the panels increases, changing the shape of the shawl. The large shawl is almost square.

The listed gauge is for my original prototype. As always, use a gauge that will get you the finished fabric you like. To determine needle size, I recommend doing a swatch of Chart E and blocking it.

The shawlette size from cast on to bind off is approximately 20-22 inches. The full size shawl from cast on to bind off is approximately 40 inches. Sizes given are for original prototype. Actual size will vary depending on gauge and blocking.
