This is a pattern for a pair of socks that features an Alpine cable running down the back of the sock. Unlike Aran cables, the cable stitches appear every round. If you’ve never tried an Alpine cable, it’s easiest to try one “in the round” than flat. The front of the sock is a modified ribbing stitch, that knits up very quickly. If you’re a cable lover and have never tried an alpine cable, I think you’ll like how it looks when it’s finished. I have placed this cable on the back of the sock, so that it would be most easily seen.

The focal stitch on the back of the leg is both charted and written out. It’s a fun pattern to learn this particular cable on.

Skill level: Intermediate (assuming a basic knowledge of sock knitting and cabling.)

The yarn used to make the sample pair is Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sock yarn in the colorway called Mirth.

The sample was expertly test knitted by Rachel McKinney who can be contacted at: 100creations @gmail.com.
