If you have those friends or family who are constantly saying, “I wish I could knit!” Then this is the project for them. Please share it with those people so they can get started with their own knitting practice! And if you are a new knitter, I hope you enjoy this scarf and that it helps you to launch a whole new hobby.

Meet my Magic Scarf free knitting pattern. I call this the Magic Scarf for a reason!

Here are just a few reasons why I LOVE this scarf project. I recommend and teach this as the first project for all my knitting students. Here’s why:

A grey scarf is a perfect accessory, so you’ll actually be able to wear it when you’re done.

  • It matches everything.

  • It can be dressed up or down.

  • It always looks chic.

  • It looks good on everybody.

I suggest this scarf as a first project for all my knitting students in real life, so I thought writing it up as a pattern to share on my website made sense. I recommend the yarn and needle combination as I’ve found it to be the easiest for new knitters to handle, and both are easy to obtain in a craft store.

The scarf uses two skeins of yarn and is all knit stitch to create a classic garter stitch scarf. The printable pattern is in pdf format and includes clickable links to videos that guide the maker through the process of making the scarf.

I have full lessons planned for working through the entire project in a slow pace. My experience has been that new people have too much information thrown at them at one time, and wind up over whelmed and unable to retain anything. This project is designed to take it’s time and only introduce one new thing at a time.
