Minnesota Yarn Shop Hop 2019

The theme for this year’s Shop Hop is Inspired by Games, and 3 Kittens chose the Mystery Date Game as our inspiration. I designed this hat as a way to work with our specially dyed colors of Polka Dot Sheep’s Tenderfoot 80/20. Choose your main color, then add a “date” color for the contrast. This hat looks so different depending on the contrast color used!

The pattern involves a slipped twist stitch that may be a little different than typical twist stitches. To help you decipher the slipped twist stitch, view our video tutorial on our YouTube channel.

Size options - The prototype (green hat) and the blue hat were both a little smaller than expected (although they fit our head mannequins really well, and could fit a child’s head), so I’ve added two additional sizes to fit larger heads. The sizes are 17”, 18 1/4”. and 19 1/2” circumference x 8 1/2” deep. You can make the hat deeper by adding 1-2 repeats of the first chart. (Yes, there are charts, but the pattern is also fully written out.)

Gauge is done in the round using the slip twist pattern - it’s a good time to practice the technique and get it down pat before moving onto the larger hat.

Materials needed:

  • fingering weight yarn - approximately 250-300 yards MC and 50-100 yards CC
  • needles - 2.75mm and 3.0mm (note, I am not specifying US sizes because some brands call 3.0mm needles US 2.5 while others call them US 3)

I hope you enjoy this pattern!
