This hat and scarf are designed to be easy knits for when you’re on the bus or watching TV.

Once you get started, you’ll only need to glance at the pattern occasionally.

If you want to put a name on the scarf, you can make a template using the alphabet provided.

Stitches used:

sl1k, sl1p, k2tog, p2tog, C4L (explained in pattern)

You will need:

· Wool. I used Hayfield Bonus Chunky. Tension: 10cm x 10cm square is 14 stitches across and 19 rows. Two balls of this wool made one hat and one 120cm scarf. If you want a longer scarf, buy three balls. If you only buy two, knit the hat first so you can’t run out. If you want to add a name to the scarf, you will also need a small amount of a contrast-colour wool of the same thickness.

· Knitting needles. I used 5mm, except for the hat ribbing, where I used 4mm.

· Cable needle of about the same width as your knitting needles

· Large tapestry needle

· A crochet hook can be useful if you want to add tassels
