Knit in a dk weight yarn Nancy is warm and cosy but not too bulky. The original shawl was worked in Rowan Sultano Fine, a light and airy yarn that knits to dk gauge but is 250m/50g. Alternative yarns are suggested above and to the right as well as in the actual pattern.

Yarn and Finished Dimensions: As written 70” (178cm) wide, 18.5” (47cm) deep after blocking. Measurements taken using Rowan Yarns Sultano Fine 225m/50g – two skeins. Note that measurements will differ depending on yarn, tension, blocking etc and these are therefore given as a guide only. This shawl pattern could be knit in any weight by adjusting the number of repeats of Chart Two but needle size, bead and yardage requirements will alter accordingly. During testing this shawl was worked from three skeins of The Fibre Co Arcadia 133m/50g, three skeins of Madelinetosh Farm Twist 206m/100g and two skeins of Triskelion Heulwen DK 225m/100g.

Circular Needles: 4.5mm (US7), 5mm (US8) and 5.5mm (US9) about 1m in length or needles to create a pleasing fabric – your fabric should not be too dense and should have good drape.

You will also need: stitch markers, just under 150 Miyuki size 5 (or size 3) beads for the Sultano Fine knit as written but a size 5 triangle or size 6 seed bead will be required if using fingering or lace weight yarn, 1mm crotat hook or 0.75mm crochet hook, needle (for weaving in ends), blocking pins and mats.

Gauge: Gauge is not overly important as this is a shawl but a looser gauge will result in an increase in yarn usage. However, the gauge achieved on this shawl was 14.5sts to 4” after using 4.5mm (US7) needles over stocking stitch using Rowan Sultano Fine.

The pattern is fully written and charted with bead placement clearly indicated throughout.

You will find it useful to print your pattern on a colour printer, however, coloured pencils could be used to highlight bead placement.
