The Natural Bridges Shawl is an extension of Annmarie Baker’s Natural Formations pattern, and is originally part of Madelinetosh’s Unicorn Tails Club.

Natural Formations is a triangular mini scarf/shawl. Natural Bridges uses 2 of the mini scarves and “bridges” between them, creating a larger, wider shawl.

This pattern uses the same garter stitch and intarsia concept as Natural Formations for a unified look. The pattern picks up stitches from the bind-off of one Natural Formations, creates a middle section, and then uses a mattress stitch to seam to the second Natural Formations.

YARN:
Each Natural Formations piece requires 6 Madelinetosh Unicorn Tails. The bridge section also uses 6 skeins, and also uses up any yardage leftover. In total, Natural Bridges uses 18 Unicorn Tails.

The colors used in the sample are listed for an exact match, but the pattern allows for plenty of color-play with mini skeins.
