Naughty George Scarf
Having recently acquired a very busy, inquisitive (read naughty) Brittany puppy, I needed a knitting project that I could pick up and put down repeatedly without losing my place. Yet, the project had to be engaging to knit, and beautiful since the finished object would be placed in my “gift box” that holds future presents for friends and family. And so, I designed the Naughty Puppy Scarf!
This scarf is 80” long and 9&1/2” wide after blocking. The gauge, 18 stitches to 4” x 17 rows to 4” was knit in the lace pattern of the scarf and was blocked before measuring. The gauge, however is not critical, although differences will likely result in varying sizes.
For a touch of luxury, I used my friend Lisa’ s, from Lisa’s Sew Crafty, hand dyed lace weight yarn, a sumptuous blend of 60% alpaca and 40% wool (100g/610 yd), and held it with Rico Designs Essentials Super kid mohair/silk Print (100g/410 yd). Having used 1 skein of each, left over was 45g of the alpaca/wool and 13g of the mohair/silk.
The fuzziness of the yarn along with the easy lace pattern allowed me to use a U.S. size 9 needle. The lace pattern is a very easy 2 row repeat. The project is quick, novice friendly, and appropriate for social knitting, yet is gift worthy to the most discriminating loved one!
