A boat or NAUKA, as we call them here is the inspiration behind this pattern.

A Nauka is a long colourful Snake Boat used for the traditional boat race of Kerela in India. It’s a joy to see almost 100 rowers rowing one single boat. The small triangles seen accross the top portion of the shawl represent these men rowing, the paddles rowing in and out of the water with perfect synchronicity.. The wavy bottom portion represents water.

A Nauka is also used by fishermen who go fishing deep into the sea. It’s a very risky job and when they return back to the shore with their catch, it’s time to enjoy. The shawl border is simple and represent the uneven coastline.

A lot of team work is needed for both the race and to catch fish. So also to release a design. I thank my team of testers Chhaya, Sumita, Kammya and Harini. You all did and wonderful job!!
