Gauge isn’t really important, as long as the fiberfil doesn’t show you’re good, using a larger gauge will result in a slightly larger plush just as using a smaller gauge will result in a slightly smaller plush.

This can be done easily with scraps of yarn of your choice, and a small ball of fiberfil.
