Hat may be worn as a slouch hat (the 5” band of 1 x 1 ribbing keeps a snug fit over the ears) or by cuffing the rim (which doubles the warmth) and wearing as a stocking cap. The simple style and flexibility in sizing due to the ribbing makes it a good fit for men and women of many head sizes.

Finished size, unstretched and laying flat: L = 12”; H = 8”

The hat is worked by holding two Aran-weight yarns together, with staggered shifts to each new colorway, one strand at a time, to create a gradient, Ombré effect. Joins may be made by creating two magical gradient balls in advance (recommended; instructions provided) or by working the joins as the project progresses.

Pairs perfectly with the Nestled in Ombré Scarf; perfect for using up those bits of yarn left from the scarf project. VAMSEGARN by RAUMA is the recommended yarn for this project: to make both projects, 11 skeins are needed; alternately, the hat (alone) requires one skein each of 5 colors:

Choose five gradient shades of a single color for the appearance of Ombré or five distinct colors for a rainbow effect.
