  • ENGLISH INFO - (Abajo en Español)

The New Age Mittens result from the collaboration with Indie Untangled and Lanivendole for the first of 2021 Where We Knit Club installments. Lanivendole and I worked inspired by one of my photographs when I arrived at my new house in Amsterdam, just before the first lockdown. The mittens are inspired by the idea of the home as a cage and refuge during the days we would soon understand as a new era. Lisa and I are fans of the Velvet Underground, and naming the mittens after one of their songs made me especially happy.

TECHNICAL DETAILS

Beginner level

Sizes 1 (2, 3)

The model is shown in size 1 with 1 cm / 0.5 “of negative ease.

Finished Measurements

Hand circumference
-at the widest part of the knuckles-:
18 (20.5, 23) cm / 7 (8, 9) “.

Intended Ease

Recommended ease: Approx. 1 cm / 0.5 “of negative ease.

Notes On Construction

These mittens are knitted bottom-up. The cuffs are knitted using the Magic Loop technique with circular needles. The beginning of the cuff is worked in stockinette stitch on the wrong side of the garment. Once the total measure is reached to be able to fold the fist over itself, the direction of the stitch is turned by making a short turn, and the palm and fingers of the mitten begin to be knitted in 2x2 rib. We close the mitten using the grafting technique. Lastly, the thumb is knitted with double-pointed needles, and the cuff is sewn by folding it over itself.

YARN ALTERNATIVES

Here, I propose some yarn alternatives for the New Age Mittens. I have tried to find yarns similar to the ones I have used, but each of them has its peculiarities. I always try to give you ideas of different price ranges and quality or that you can easily find in your LYS. Use those that resonate the most with you, and I encourage you to work with environmentally friendly fibers and to support small businesses. Please note that these alternative yarns have not been tested for this pattern, but I hope they inspire you.

DETALLES
