Finished mitt is about 61⁄2” wide x 6” high. To adjust size, add or subtract stitches in foundation chain (width) and/or rows (height).

This is a crochet version of Skacel’s New Knitter Mitts which was published for their “10,000 New Knitters” promotion. The shop where I teach crochet, Craftworks in Northborough, MA participated in the program, and we didn’t want to leave out our crochet customers.

This pattern is intended for very beginners to try out the craft of crochet, and uses only the most basic stitches worked in turned rows:

The pattern includes instructions for two different types of seams: slip stitch crocheted, and whip stitch sewn. In the project photo, the mitt on the left has a crocheted seam, and the one on the right is sewn.
