A ride in a hot air balloon is a “bucket list” item for so many people, and New Mexico is a great place to check that one off the list. Perhaps it’s the idea of floating through the sky enjoying panoramic views without the need for a noisy airplane that draws us to ballooning. Or the feeling of weightlessness or floating on a cloud. Whatever the reason, the annual Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta (the largest ballooning event in the world) is the perfect opportunity to fulfil that dream. Even if you’d rather watch from the ground, a balloon filled sky is an unforgettable sight.

Colorful balloons fill a bright blue sky in this design. The largest balloon is reminiscent of vintage balloons covered in netting. It might not be a “bucket list” item, but…knit a hot air balloon? Check!
