This is a sweet little hat, designed to fit a newborn baby. It mimics the cotton gauze hats often provided by hospitals. A wonderful stash-buster or maybe worth a one-skein splurge for a precious new arrival in your life.

One hat uses less than 25g of yarn, so you could have enough for a second hat or a pair of booties to match. Both weights of yarn create a hat of the same size. This hat is designed to be knit using the magic loop method. This pattern has been made for two different weights of yarn (Fingering and DK).

Finished size is about 30cm circumference. This should fit most newborns. It is not intended to fit for more than a few weeks as they grow so quickly.

I recommend knitting the ribbing loosely to provide more stretch and using a loose/stretchy cast on.
