This crescent shawl pattern was designed to use 1 skein of fingering or sock weight yarn. Use that special skein that has been in your stash! You can increase the size of the shawl by adding additional sections of net and garter stitch sections. Heavier or lighter weight yarns can be used in this pattern, but the dimensions and yardage will change.

The pattern uses 2 stitch patterns; the garter stitch and a mesh pattern based on the garter stitch. The pattern is suitable for an advanced beginner. You will use knit stitches, yarn overs and knit 2 stitches together.

The shawl pattern was inspired by a fantastically colorful sunset in Newport, RI last Fall. Many happy evenings were spent on Brenton Point in Newport RI looking at Summer sunsets by locals and tourists alike. The sample was knit with 1 skein of Knitting Fever Painted Desert fingering yarn in color #04 Eruption.

The shawl was designed for Spring and Summer wear. In colder weather, the shawlette can be used as a cowl. It is a fast and easy knit! You can knit this pattern while traveling or watching TV.

The gauge of 22 stitches and 28 rows to 4 inches (10 cm) is based on the garter stitch. I used a circular US 7 (4.5 mm) needle 40 inches (100 cm) long. The finished size is 57 in (145 cm) wide tip to tip and 14.5 in (37 cm) deep at the center back. The shawl is worked from the neck down.

The knitting pattern is written and charted and has been tech edited and test knit.
