This is a simple mitt pattern that is super easy to change for longer or shorter mitts, and larger or smaller hands. The gauge is determined mostly by the yarn you use. Everything is done in 5’s and 10s (hence the name Nickle and Dime).

Easy instructions for elbow length mitts:

CO 52 instead of 40, work in rib as instructed, and decrease two stitches every fourth row until you get to 40 stitches, and work as instructed from the first st st round in pattern.

Size varies according to gauge. Larger hands, use thicker yarn or go up a needle size.

Any yarn can be used with a little math, but the pattern works best with sock/sport, fingering, and dk weight yarns. Worsted will turn out larger, but still fit my moderate sized hands well.

Great for scraps! If you have a bunch of colors of yarn in the same weight, make a striped pair!
