For this lovely shrug, I hearkened back to a bygone era, imagining what Elizabeth Bennet, my favorite of Jane Austen’s heroines, might have worn as a child.

Complex open stitchwork at the back of the shrug gives it an elegant and classic look, while the shawl collar provides a little warmth for cool summer nights and chilly fall days.

The chart should make sense once you start knitting!

The sleeves are the 1 first stitch + 3 pattern repeats (the red outlined bit). Once you cast off and get to the back, you will be working the whole chart, with no repeats. Once you get to the second sleeve at the end, you will cast on more stitches and be back to using the first stitch of the chart + 3 repeats of the red outlined bit again! Super simply but one of those things you have to do for it to click!
