I can’t get enough of these small neck scarves but when I went looking for one with just stockinette stitch, I couldn’t find a small narrow scarf that I thought was perfect. So, I decided to create several of my own. Choose your most luxurious yarn or knit up one in something soft and squishy.
A scarf has to be the most beautiful thing ever invented to wear! It’s winding, a continuity, an infinity!” - Sonia Rykiel, French Fashion designer and writer
PRINTING NOTE: This is a checklist pattern; it is not necessary to print the entire pattern if you prefer not to use the checkboxes for each section.
PATTERN NOTES: The scarf is worked flat from the bottom up. There are three options: stockinette, beaded and cabled. This is the beaded version.
I highly recommend matching the weight of your yarn to the pattern yarn weight that is recommended. (For example: this pattern recommends fingering weight 50 grams = 164 yards. Therefore, a 100-gram skein would need to equal 328 yards. Using a skein with significantly fewer or more yards will result in a different product.) And this pattern will not work the same if not using a blown yarn. If not using a blown yarn, a DK weight or light worsted weight is a better substitution.
What is tube or blown yarn? Tube yarn, as the name implies, is a knitted tube into which fibers have been blown. The tube itself is usually made from a very f ine strand of a smooth, strong fiber, like cotton, silk, or nylon. The fibers blown into the tube are the softer, more luxurious fibers like merino, cashmere, and alpaca. Tube yarns are extremely light and lofty, so your fabric is lighter than one knit with a similar gauge yarn of either plied or chainette construction. Tube yarns create fabric with a soft subtle halo and very touchable surface that resists pilling.
