sliding scale pricing

I offer two discounts: 10% and 25% off through my website for those who are low income (use codes LOW10 & LOW25). This is an honors system discount - I feel very strongly about making my work more accessible but this is also how I make a living, so please pay full price if you are able to do so!

The Nix Vest is textural and drapey af- it’s a dream of a layering piece. Lightweight enough to wear in every season, knit with irregularities, dropped stitches, and even (if you want) a leather highlight on the hood.

CONSTRUCTION
Body is worked flat, across from the right edge to the left
making a large rectangle with stitches bound off
vertically to create the armholes. Worsted weight yarn
and big needles give an open knit finish, with the
opportunity to incorporate irregularities throughout. A
stitch each at top and bottom of the body is dropped for
a shredded effect. The hood is picked up from the upper
edge of the body and knit flat without irregularities to
give a contrasting solidity to the vest. I originally
designed this vest with the top of the hood knit in
leather - this is optional, and instructions are included. I
do not give explicit instructions for when and where to place
your irregularities, but I’ve created an index of types of
irregularities you can use, and suggestions for how and
where to place them.

SIZES
1 (2, 3, 4, 5)(6, 7, 8, 9) to fit chest measurement of 28-30
(32-34, 36-38, 40-42, 44-46)(48-50, 52-54, 56-58, 60-62)”,
71-76 (81-86, 91-96, 101-106, 111-117)(122-127, 132-137, 142-147, 152-158)cm. Note: the most important measurement in this pattern is shoulder to shoulder measurement, please choose your size with this factor in mind.

FINISHED GARMENT MEASUREMENTS:
SHOULDER TO SHOULDER: 12 (13, 14, 15, 16)(16, 17, 17, 18)”/ 30 (32.5, 35, 37.5, 40)(40, 42.5, 42.5, 45)cm
BODY- laid flat & measured edge to edge: 44 (47, 50, 53,
56)(56, 61, 61, 64)” / 110 (117.5, 125, 132.5, 140)(140, 152.5, 152.5, 160)cm
You will choose the body size that best suits your shoulder to shoulder measurement first, and chest measurement
second. Ease is somewhat positive - I’ve intentionally left
out ease measurements, since the shoulder measurement is
what’s most important. While the length of the sides
corresponds with chest size, it also corresponds with how
long the sides will be when worn open, so ease isn’t entirely
applicable to these measurements.

YARN
Flexible based on how gossamer/robust you want your
vest to be. Anything from sport to bulky weight can be
experimented with, though the pattern is written using a
worsted weight, & gauge assumes you’re using
something similar.

SUGGESTED YARN - Blue Sky Fibers Organic Cotton
Worsted (worsted weight, 100% organic cotton,
150yds/137m per 3.5oz/100g skein). 3 (3, 3, 4, 4)(4, 4, 5, 5) skeins.

YARDAGE- approx 328 (357, 390, 428, 470)(510, 546, 605,
650) yards / 300 (326, 357, 391, 430)(466, 499, 553, 594)
meters

NEEDLES - US 17 (12.0mm) 32-40” (80-100cm) and US 15
(10.0mm) 16-32” (40-80cm) circular needles, or straight
needles if you’re freaky that way.

SUPPLIES - 2 stitch markers, 3-4 row markers, size US
L-N (8-10mm) or other large crochet hook, darning needle.

TECHNIQUES - twisted stitches, binding off mid
garment, casting on mid garment, semi stretchy bind off,
short row shaping, single crochet seam.
