No Love No Nothin is knit side-to-side, with spikes along the bottom edge. Leave as a scarf, or pick up stitches and add subtle short row shaping along the top for a deeper shawl. The instructions are charted, with a relatively simple and easy to memorize lace pattern repeat.

On a personal note, this shawl is a tribute to my late grandfather Albert Marquez, whom I affectionately nicknamed “Hombre” as a child.

Inspired by the wartime I WANT YOU Uncle Sam posters, he joined the US Air Force in 1942 and fought in WWII as nose gunner on a B-24 Liberator plane dubbed the No Love, No Nothin’. He flew 33 missions and received several awards before his plane brought him safely home for good.

By sheer coincidence (or perhaps divine intervention?) I am releasing this pattern on what would have been his 103rd birthday.
