'No seams to sew' raglan cardigan/sweater
This sideways knit, raglan cardigan has no seams to sew up afterwards. The only seam needed to be joined is the under arm seam and this is joined on the machine.
This is a pattern for those possessing a charting device and gives detailed instructions for those new to this method.
The raglan shaping is created using holding position.
The use of a charting device means it can be created with any yarn you like suitable to your machine. The instructions cover how to proceed with both chunky and standard gauge machine with ribber.
It also includes a method for creating a ribbed front band. The edge of a sideways knit cardigan will tend to want to roll outwards. This method help negates this.
A sweater can also be made with this pattern, obviously needing a join, but this will also be achieved on the machine.
Various options are described - for a fuller, rather than fitted sleeve, - a wider and/or flared lower edge - a rolled neckline for the sweater rather than a ribbed band.
The amount of yarn used will obviously depend on the yarn you decide to use. Amounts are given for the options used in the example garments.
