My favorite Radiohead song is, without a doubt, “No Surprises” from the album OK Computer. Drawing on the chorus of “no alarms and no surprises,” this pattern takes the standard ribbed sock and transforms it through color. As you work through the special touches in this design, I hope you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the way your yarn choices play together.

Sizes

1: 56 Stitches - 8”-9” foot circumference
2: 64 Stitches - 9”-10” foot circumference
3: 72 Stitches - 10”-11” foot circumference

Gauge

US 0/2.0 mm - Approx. 9-10 stitches per inch in stockinette.

Sample shown in Size 2, knit on US 0.

Socks have negative ease with an extreme amount of stretch to ensure a snug fit while still pulling easily over the heel. Double check your gauge—you may need to adjust your needle size from what you
normally use.

Yarn

You’ll need one (1) 100 g skein of fingering weight yarn and one (1) 20 g mini skein of coordinating or contrasting yarn for the toe. This design works well with coordinating varegated skeins that fade together.
