This pattern is for a hollow, opening Noah’s Ark as well as Noah, his wife and 11 different types of animal! The pattern contains lots of photos to help you every step of the way. It is written in English, using American crochet terms.

There is obviously some assembly involved with this design, but I’ve really tried to keep the amount of sewing to a minimum where possible. For example, the head, body and arms of Noah and his wife are made in single pieces and as many of the animals as possible are made in single pieces too.

You will need:

Yarn of your choice. I used Patons Smoothie DK Yarn (this is quite a thick DK yarn so it is equivalent to aran or light worsted weight in other brands). To give you an idea of scale, using this weight yarn with a 3.5mm hook, the Noah figure measures approximately 6.5cm tall. My finished ark measures approximately 25cm long and 21cm tall. Please ensure that you use the same weight yarn to make both your ark and the animals, to ensure that they will fit inside it.

To make the animals and figures, these are all of the colours that I used (including the quantities needed to make 2 of each animal):
Beige (approx. 62m).
Light green (approx. 24.5m).
White (approx. 49.5m).
Cream (approx. 9m).
Black (approx. 19m).
Dark Yellow (approx. 5m).
Light Yellow (approx. 38m).
Light Pink (approx. 22.5m).
Light Grey (or Blue) (approx. 21.5m).
Blue (approx. 5m).

To make the ark, these are the colours that I used
Main Boat Colour - I used beige (approx. 446m).
House Colour - I used light green (approx. 100m).
Roof Colour - I used dark green (approx. 51.5m).

The amount of yarn used will vary according to yarn weight, hook size and stitch tension so these measurements are only a rough guide. The pattern refers to the colours that I used, however these can be substituted for colours of your choice.

You will also need:

A suitable size hook for the yarn you have chosen - I used a 3.5mm hook.

Some toy stuffing.

2 small coins or metal washers - Noah & Noah’s wife have a 5p coin inside their base, to help weight them and make them stand more easily. A 5p coin is 18mm in diameter, so you could use any suitable sized coin or metal washers.

Plastic canvas. I had a 26cm x 33cm sheet (that’s 10.25 x 13.5 inches) and I used 2 sheets to make 1 ark.

A small button (and a needle and thread with which to attach it).

Small amounts of finer yarn or embroidery thread in the following colours, for adding the eyes & other details: Black, beige, brown, dark green & dark pink.

Other tools you will need are a tapestry needle, some scissors, some pins and a stitch marker.

You are welcome to sell the items that you make using this pattern, but please do not sell / share the pattern itself. Thank you.
