Sometimes inspiration hits unexpectedly, and you just have to be ready for it. After all, a yarn named “King Cake” must be used in a New Orleans themed project, right? And the Crescent City demands a shawl with the same shape.

So I took my favorite crescent architecture, jazzed it up with a little texture and sized it for DK weight yarn. Ta-dah! NOLA Blues was born.

The shawlette is knit from the bottom up in a ridged stockinette pattern. The crescent is formed by working the body in short rows, using decreases to bridge the turning points, so there are no wrapped stitches to deal with.

Yarn Recommendations: This pattern is designed for a gradient dyed yarn, but will also work well with solids and semi-solids. You can combine several solid colors to achieve the striped effect.

Skill Level: intermediate - requires k2tog, ssk,p2tog and centered double decrease; short row shaping
