After knitting a number of Kihnu-style mittens in traditional colors (black, off-white, and red), I chose non-traditional colors for these contemporary mittens. An odd number of pattern repeats around the mitten requires special treatment so that both of the backs of the mittens look alike. You will see that the palms are different from the backs of the mittens. A cross pattern is centered on the backs of the hand and a star pattern is centered on the palms of the hand.
