SKILL LEVEL: advanced beginner.

SKILLS USED: cast on, knit in the round, knit and purl stitches, knitting two stitches together, basic cable work. Additional techniques are explained in the text.

NEEDLES: 6mm (10 US) circular or five double pointed needles AND 5mm (8 US) circular or five double pointed needles.

YARN: The original hat in this pattern was made with two strands of Merino Extra Fine yarn by Drops. The adult size hat requires 3.5 skeins (360m/400yds), child size - 3 skeins (300m/330yds). Other yarns can be used as long as they meet the gauge specification.

GAUGE: 13.5 stitches and 20 rows in 10cm (4 in.) worked in stockinette on 6mm (10 US) needles.
