Little vests are some of my favorite things to knit - they are a fast knit and very handy for keeping small children warm in chilly winter weather. The pattern for the Nordic Winter Vest is a simple vest with rib edges worked in the round at first and then divided into front and back. The pattern also contains a number of charts for textural patterns.

Sizes: 1-3 months (6-12 months) 1-2 years (3-4 years)

Gauge: Depends on the chosen pattern but appr. 16 to 18 sts pr. 10 cm/4 inches

Skill level: Easy

Techniques: Rib, knitting in the round, textural pattern, decreases

Materials:

50 (50) 75 (75) grams of yarn for size 5 mm needles or size 2,5-3 mm needles, held double (the vests in the pictures are made in Tusindfryds Engleuld (50 g = 230 m/251 yards) in colors Gammelrosa (dusty rose) (no. 14) and Lys Sennep (curry yellow) (no. 44) and Knitspicks’ Stroll Sock Yarn (50 g = 211 m/231 yards) in colors Wonderland Heather (no. 25028) og Dogwood Heather (no. 25603))

Size 5 mm (U.S. size 8) circular needle, 40 cm (16 inches) (or size necessary to obtain gauge)

4 small buttons
