Noro Kureyon Tote Bag

Knitting a project and then felting it in the washing machine has always been a delightful experience for me! The felting process adds an element of surprise, introducing a whole new dimension to the finished piece. Felting transforms the knitted item into something more durable and textured, and the colors—especially those from Noro Kureyon—blend beautifully to create a felted rainbow.
..
MATERIAL
- Noro KUREYON 100% wool; 100m /50g ball – 4 balls (or 160 grams) shown in color 344 – If you plan to make the handle shorter, you might only need 3 balls, as I only used 10 grams of the fourth one.
- Circular needles of 6 mm; US#10 (or size needed to obtain gauge) with a cable length of 60 cm; 24” or more. ▪ Tapestry needle
- A stitch holder or piece of waste yarn to put sts on hold.
GAUGE
- 16 sts x 23 rows = 10 cm; 4” worked flat, in stockinette stitch, before felting.
- 19 sts x 28 rows = 10 cm; 4” worked flat, in stockinette stitch, after felting.
FINAL SIZES
Measured flat before felting :
Bag height: 32 cm; 12.5” x bag width: 37 cm; 14.5” with handle depth: 16.5 cm; 6.5”
Measured flat after felting :
* Bag height: 26.5 cm; 10.5” x bag width: 32.5 cm; 12.75” with handle depth: 15 cm; 6”
NOTES
This bag is worked from the bottom up, starting with a rectangular base. Stitches are then picked around the base to knit the body in the round, continuing up to the handles, which are worked flat.
The final touch is achieved by picking up stitches along each handle’s side and binding off the opening of the bag and handles with an I-Cord.
Afterwards, the bag is felted by washing it in the machine with warm or hot water. More details on the wet felting process are provided in the felting section.
