North Country Flowers was designed in 2021 as part of Rowan Tree Travel’s Armchair Travel Knit Kits. The intent was to connect our travel community with the yarn farmers and artisans at our various destinations through the Covid-19 pandemic. We no longer offer these kits -- or are stuck at home due to the pandemic -- but you can still enjoy making these warming, flower-inspired garments. And if you get to purchase some of the original yarn whilst on one of our fiber adventures in Scotland, that’s even better!

The wildflowers of the Scottish Highlands bloom here and there, waiting to be discovered and enjoyed. Some dot the hillsides. Others pop up from amongst resting boulders or ravines running with cold water. Some nestle into hidden, marshy depressions. Their bright colors shout for attention - an exclamation point in the fabric of green that stretches across the land. They are a wanderer’s constant delight. I adore them. By working these wildflowers into a hat and mitts, I’ll enjoy a warm head, hands and heart as I wander - whether at home or overseas. I hope you will too.

The Wildflower Tassel is designed by my friend, Linda Eglinton. She made one for her North Country Flowers hat. I loved it so much I asked her to write up a set of instructions. She did!
