North Wind polo
The North Wind Polo is a timeless wardrobe staple with a relaxed, modern feel. Building on the clean lines and thoughtful construction of the original North Wind design, this version features a classic polo-style neckline that works just as beautifully for cool summer days as it does layered into the colder months. Designed to be worn year-round, it’s the kind of knit that moves effortlessly between seasons and outfits.
The pattern includes two versions: a long-sleeved pullover and a short-sleeved t-shirt. Both share the same carefully balanced fit and construction, allowing you to choose the version and yarn that best suits your climate and wardrobe. The collar is shaped with double-knitted edges at the front neck, creating a clean, polished finish before the collar itself is worked in ribbing.
The North Wind Polo is worked seamlessly from the top down. It begins at the back neck, which is increased to the full width of the upper back before stitches are picked up for the shoulders and worked as the front. The yoke is shaped first with sleeve increases and later with increases for both sleeves and body, resulting in a comfortable fit with beautiful proportions. At the underarms, sleeves and body are separated and finished individually in the round. Both sleeve and body lengths are easy to adjust, and the garment can be tried on as you knit to achieve your preferred fit.
Both versions are designed for DK weight fabric, giving you plenty of flexibility in yarn choice. The long-sleeved pullover works especially well in classic wool blends, or in fingering weight yarn held together with mohair, suri alpaca, or cashmere for a softer, more winter-ready fabric. For the t-shirt version, lighter options such as two strands of summery fingering weight yarn, fingering held with laceweight, or warm-weather blends like linen, silk, or cotton create an airy, wearable fabric perfect for spring and summer.
Modern and minimalistic, yet versatile and endlessly wearable, the North Wind Polo is designed to be knit more than once and worn long after the season changes.
