As the name implies, this is not as simple as my previous pattern, the “So Simple Shawlette”. It is a little more difficult to knit, and a whole lot more difficult to write up. However, I will try to put the stitch patterns to words and add charts when the patterns are more interesting.

This is knit on the bias, two sides have an I-cord edge and the yarn can be carried up the side instead of breaking each color change. There is no right or wrong side, this shawl is not identical on each side but both sides look good and almost the same. Every time the color is changed a seed stitch row is done.

When reading charts you are looking at the “Right Side” (RS), with the increases on the right. The shaded area represents the pattern repeat.
This pattern takes no more than 370 yards each of 2 sock weight yarns. Gauge = 6 stitches/inch in garter stitch on size 5 needles.

I had the pleasure of receiving yarn from three different wonderful dyers to knit the samples.

The Blue/White Shawl was done with Dancing Leaf Farm Sock Hop, colors Hyacinth and Blue

The Grey/Purple/Black Shawl was done with The Fiberists Audubon Sport in SiO2 (Smokey Quartz) and Mbuna Cichlid

The Gold/White was done in Magpie Fibers Swanky DK colors Strange Brew and Smoke and Mirrors
Additional photos for each shawl are included in their project page.

The shawl measures 72in x 42in x 34in, and 15in from tip to longest edge.

If you have extra yarn, you could modify your pattern by completing all 10 rows of the CC band instead of casting off, then switch to the MC and do a SeedDecInc row followed by 15 rows of garter stitch. By the same method an additional section of seed stitch can be added. When you are finished work the last CC band as described in the pattern and cast off.

The wine rating for this varies depending on which section you are working on, there are some that are more challenging like the zig-zag sections, but each CC band is simple so it’s up to you!

Same with its versatility when walking, traveling or multitasking with another activity, some sections are easier than others!

And of course, it is reversible!!!!

Also - there are 3 pdf files included, one with full instructions, one with charts, and one with written instructions so you can pick and choose which you would like to use and/or print.

Please let me know if you have any questions about the pattern, I am happy to help!
