From the book:
“Nozzlers, or >fiber-travelers< as the ancients called them for their ability to wiggle in and out of the many dimensions of the universe, are an elusive and clever spirit creature (…) The shape that each Nozzler would take was unknowable until that particular individual arrived on this plane (…) Once sealed in an earthly body, a Nozzler would become a companion and trusted advisor to the human who conjured it. It was believed that every human had a Nozzler counterpart on a separate plane and that no human would be wholly complete until she was united with his or her Nozzler (…) your own Nozzler counterpart, who will serve as your guide and confidant. Be aware, say the ancients and do not have an expectation of what your guide will be like. They are what you need, not necessarily what you want.”
