In the legends of Middle Earth, Numenor (like Atlantis) is drowned under the sea as punishment for the pride and folly of its rulers, who turn their backs on the Valar and under the influence of Sauron turn to worshipping darkness. I Imagine this beautiful cushion floating amongst the debris of the sunken court, a mute testimony to the pride and folly of Man.

This pattern uses mosaic colourwork techniques and short rows at the end to create the required cylindrical shape. Finishing requires two seams and seven buttons. The finished cover will be @16” long, but because pillows are squishy and yarn is stretchy, I recommend purchasing a pillow form that is longer than the cover by a few inches. This produces a nice firm cushion perfect to position for lumbar support.

Materials Required:
@260y aran/heavy worsted weight yarn main colour (colour A)
@200y aran/heavy worsted weight yarn contrast colour (colour B)
I recommend that at least one of these yarns be a solid colour; the other yarn can be of any type so long as it contrasts sharply to the solid yarn in all areas.
4.5mm/US7 needles, or size needed for gauge. The project is worked flat and the longest rows are 99 stitches, so straight needles may be used.
7 buttons
18-20” x 6” cylindrical pillow form

Optional Materials:
13 stitch markers to mark repeats
upholstery cotter pins or snagless safety pins to attach buttons
