Nymphaea: Water lily! Cascading zigzags evoke wind on the water, interspersed with floral shell lace bands. This fingering weight shawl was first designed for Bead Biz and June Pryce Fiber Arts using a mini skein gradient set.

This updated pattern can be knit in a smaller version with 435 yards/100g MC and 50g of a contrasting color, or a larger version with a 650 yard/150g MC and 50g CC. A continuous gradient can really shine! The pattern is highly adjustable for length. Just finish a zigzag lace section as your yarn runs out, and then add the border.

The pattern was first available exclusively through Bead Biz as part of a kit with June Pryce Fiber Arts, beginning at Rhinebeck in October 2017 through Rhinebeck 2018. You’ll find it in the Bead Biz booth at shows and festivals, as well as on the Bead Biz website.

This pattern is also available through my Payhip store.

Note, December 2017: I’ve clarified the repeat on RS rows 1-11 and 25-35 of the zigzag lace to make it more clear what to do when you get to the next zigzag lace section after the water lilies. There are 3 knit sts at the end of the RS rows 1-11 and 25-35; these 3 k sts are not part of the repeat. They only happen at the end of the row, after all your repeating is finished. (Purl them on the WS rows.) Chart also updated. Also, chart key should say P3tog and P5tog for those stitches on WS rows of shell lace (not knit). Written instructions were and are correct.
